In order to ensure the welding quality of plastic mold components, it is very important to choose the right and reasonable materials. There are two commonly used welding metal materials, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel, and they show different characteristics during welding.
When medium carbon steel is used for welding, the hardening tendency of the heat affected zone is gradually increasing, and cracks and pores are prone to occur. In order to avoid this situation, the appropriate temperature should be selected for preheating according to the type and characteristics of medium carbon steel before welding.

Different welding rods are selected according to the strength level of the material. When the material is excessively integrated into the weld, the carbon content will increase. Therefore, grooves should be opened and thinner welding rods should be selected. Small current and multi-layer welding process should be adopted. After welding, slow cooling and tempering are carried out to eliminate stress.
High carbon steel has a relatively high carbon content, and its hardening tendency is greater than that of medium carbon steel. It is more prone to cracks and pores. Due to poor weldability, it is generally only used for welding repairs of damaged workpieces, usually using welding rod arc welding or gas welding.
